The Canine Behavior & Training Academy with Denise Mazzola, CPDT-KAThis fast-paced and intensive six-day training program is designed for dog walkers, dog trainers, veterinary technicians, doggie day care workers, boarding personnel, shelter employees and volunteers, and all those interested in dog behavior and training. Academy participants will develop a foundation for understanding how dogs learn, the skills and knowledge required to recognize and understand dog behavior (including stress signals and aggression warnings), the ability to begin teaching basic-level pet dog classes, and the ability to develop effective working relationships with owners—after all, every dog comes with a human who also needs to be understood.
What is the Canine Behavior & Training Academy?
The Canine Behavior & Training Academy is a six-day intensive training program focusing on understanding canine behavior, learning theory, training skills, and building rapport with customers. Each student will be assigned a master trainer: a shelter dog. Through lecture, discussion, video review, and daily hands-on training, you will practice observation skills and learning theory while developing goal behaviors with your master trainer.
Who benefits from participation in the Canine Behavior & Training Academy?Regardless of your current dog-training experience, and whether you are contemplating a career change or have already begun the process, the Canine Behavior & Training Academy will provide you with improved knowledge and skills. The Academy welcomes entry-level participants as well as individuals who have some dog-training experience. Each student will have the opportunity to set individual goals to make the most of their Academy experience.
The Academy will: · Improve your understanding of canine behavior, body language, the science behind training techniques, and basic training methods. · Develop a unique niche in your dog-walking business by adding a training component. · Reduce stress in your boarding business by understanding dog body language and associative learning. · Improve your ability to work with shelter dogs. · Help veterinary technicians develop positive relationships with their canine clients by understanding and using associative learning, and enable them to offer clients basic training tips. · Enable entry-level trainers to jump-start their resume of teaching experience and add to their toolbox of skills. · Improve your ability to listen to customers, build rapport, train a variety of dogs, and understand canine behavior and its context.

Introducing the Instructor, Denise Mazzola, CPDT – KA
Denise Mazzola has been training dogs and teaching people for over twenty years. She is an experienced instructor of training academies, dog walking academies, and pet dog training classes. She was the Head Trainer/Director of Business Operations for ten years at an animal welfare agency. There, she developed and ran the agency’s dog-boarding business, supervised nine dog trainers, wrote curriculum for pet dog classes, conducted behavioral consultations, and supervised their retail operation.
Since then, Mazzola has established her own dog training and consulting business. She conducts behavioral consultations with owners who are dealing with a variety of issues from puppy problems to all areas of aggression. She has a premier dog boarding business in her home, and she is the east coast instructor for dogTEC, a nationwide professional dog-walking academy provider.
Denise has been hosting a monthly Ask the Trainer call-in radio show on WKBK1290 for six years. She also produces and directs Doggie Dilemmas, a cable-access TV show that airs weekly on Cheshire TV.
Denise enjoys working with dogs, their owners, and individuals in professional canine-related careers. She brings her years of experience, professional knowledge, and sense of humor to each class she teaches, and creates a comfortable learning environment for each student she encounters.

The Canine Behavior & Training Academy is being held at: the Animal Rescue League of New Hampshire 545 Route 101, Bedford, NH 03110.
When is the Academy being held?
The Academy is being held Monday May 14th - 19th, 2012. Class time is 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Be prepared to arrive early and stay late to attend to your master trainer. You will need extra time to work on homework assignments and train your dog.
Class Size
The Academy class size is limited to twelve students to ensure plenty of one-on-one attention and open discussion.

Is this Academy appropriate for me?
This Academy is for anyone interested in learning more about canine behavior, training, and the science changing behavior. Participants range in background and experience levels. Come to the Academy with an open mind and be ready to share your interests and experiences with your fellow students.
Are meals provided during the Academy?
Healthy and nutritious breakfast, lunch, and snacks will be provided each day. You are also welcome to bring your own food and drinks to enjoy throughout the day. What is the cost?
The six-day intensive Canine Behavior & Training Academy costs $899.00. If you are a graduate of dogTEC’s Dog Walking Academy, the cost is $799.00.
A non-refundable $300.00 deposit holds your place in the Canine Behavior & Training Academy, with the balance due by April 16th, 2012. Alternately, there are payment options. Please call or email for conditions. We accept Discover, Mastercard and Visa.
Are there accommodations available nearby?The Animal Rescue League of New Hampshire in Bedford is located very close to Manchester, NH. Manchester provides easy access to Manchester Airport and a wide selection of hotel accommodations for those traveling to the Academy from out of the area.
